Good Luck Superstitions

In Ancient times, wedding day rain was believed to increase fertility in a marriage. Since rain makes plants and flowers grow, it was also believed to lead to better fertility for a married couple. In the Hindu culture, a rainy wedding day is believed to strengthen a marriage. Untying a knot that is wet is very difficult, hence “tying the knot” on your wedding day in the rain makes for a strengthened marriage. Many people believe that rain washes away any sadness a couple experienced prior to their wedding day. Making a wet wedding day an ideal weather forecast.

Bad Luck Superstitions

For those that believe a rainy wedding day signifies bad luck for a marriage, they often think that rain signifies sadness. The rain symbolizes the number of tears a wife or husband will shed during their marriage. Cloudy skies and thunder are also thought to predict a tumultuous marriage.

Wedding superstitions aside, it is impossible to accurately predict or control the weather on your wedding day. One thing is certain though, you should always have a rain backup plan for an outdoor wedding ceremony or reception. Work with your venue and wedding vendors to decide a backup location for your wedding day events and plan of action for any last minute storms. And remember, if it does rain on your wedding day, the good luck superstitions certainly outweigh the bad luck superstitions!
