How to Get the Most Out of Your Wedding DJ

A wedding DJ is one of the most important aspects of a wedding. After all, isn’t a DJ the person who makes a wedding exciting and fun? Bad songs or music mistakes are the quickest way to clear your reception dance floor or stumble your bridal party as they walk down the ceremony aisle. We want things to run seamlessly at a wedding, and we also want our couples and their guests to be happy. That’s why we’ve outlined our tips for getting the most out of your wedding DJ below.

Be upfront.

Communication is key when working with your wedding DJ. He/she won’t be able to read your mind, so being direct with your DJ about your likes and dislikes will enable him/her to exceed your expectations on your wedding day. Don’t worry about coming off demanding or rude, as wedding DJs, we prefer our clients to let us know exactly what they do and don’t want us to do at their wedding so we can make their wedding day a memorable one.

Be specific about what music you want.

The more details you can give your DJ about your wedding music requests, the better. We want to know exactly which songs you want played for your ceremony, reception grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting and so forth. Hey, we even want to know which songs you want played at your cocktail hour and during dinner if you have specific songs in mind.

Wedding do’s and don’ts.

Communicating to your wedding DJ as much detail as you can about your reception is a must. Do you have a timeline in place for speeches, cake cutting, parent dances, etc.? If so, it’s important for your DJ to receive a copy, at least a week in advance, for your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception timing. If you only want your DJ to play music you’ve discussed, let him/her know not to take song requests from guests. How about songs you absolutely do not want played at your wedding? Make sure your wedding DJ has a list of these songs too to display on his or her studio monitors.

Submit your playlist in advance.

Give your wedding playlist to your DJ as early as possible, at least 30 days in advance is preferred. Your wedding DJ will need to gather and organize all of the songs for your big day. He/she will want to make sure everything is in perfect order so there are no mishaps during your wedding. We have a planning portal on our website where our couples can submit their wedding information and songs directly to us here.
