Keeping Your Wedding Dance Floor Full

Most of the engaged couples we have our initial meetings with have a similar desire in common, to keep their wedding dance floor full. We often get asked how to ensure guests will have fun and keep dancing throughout the reception. After all, who wants to throw a party where guests don’t have fun?

Let your DJ control the music.

After you hire an experienced wedding DJ, you will meet with them closer to your wedding date to discuss music choices for your reception. During this meeting you’ll discuss song selections, such as songs and genres of music you do and do not want played at your wedding. Once your DJ has this list from you, we suggest letting them take over your wedding music playlist. They’ll be able to read your wedding dance floor crowd to know what types of music to play and when, so it’s packed all night long.

Bar location.

You’ll want to ensure that wherever your caterer or wedding venue is setting up your bar is close to your dance floor. You should receive a diagram of your reception room layout in advance, which is a great place to double check that the bar is where you want it to be. If guests have to wander too far from your dance floor area to get a drink, this is a lose lose scenario for keeping your wedding dance floor full.

Time your wedding events.

We suggest doing any speeches and your cake cutting before your reception meal ends. Once dancing begins, if you stop part way through for a wedding event you’ll have to stop the music and clear the dance floor. Getting guests back out there dancing afterwards will be even harder after you’ve stopped the music.

Be present on the dance floor.

One thing that will surely get guests on your dance floor is if you, the bride and groom, are out there dancing. Sure, you’ll want to mingle with guests throughout your reception. However, if you’re noticeably absent from the wedding dance floor, guests are less likely to shake it out there without you.
