How to Ask For Cash Wedding Gifts
The days of newlyweds using traditional wedding gifts, such as crystal, china and silver are long gone. Today, the preferred choice of most brides and grooms are cash wedding gifts. Asking for cash in lieu of traditional wedding gifts can, however, walk a fine line.

The best way to go about asking for cash wedding gifts is to list a reason on your wedding website. You’ll want to explain to your guests why you would prefer cash or a gift card over a traditional gift, gift cards are also useful in the case the couple need to get certain things for their home, so they can use the gift card to get what they have been needing.. Whether it be to pay for your honeymoon, save up to purchase a home or that you are already living with your fiancé and have a home full of kitchen gadgets, you need to give a reason. Guests will also feel more comfortable giving cash wedding gifts if they know what you are using the money for. One reason to ask money or gift cards could be:
“We are so thankful to share our wedding day with our closest family and friends! Gifts are not necessary as we only want to share our special day with you. We already have a kitchen full of tools and gadgets. If you would like to give a gift to celebrate, we’ve created a registry that we will be using to save up for a down payment on a home or go on our dream honeymoon.”

If you’ll be asking for cash wedding gifts, you will still want to create at least a small traditional wedding registry. There will be some guests that just do not feel comfortable giving you cash. Or if you will be having a wedding or bridal shower, traditional gifts are usually the norm for guests to give at pre-wedding events. One last rule you’ll want to follow is to never list your wedding registries on your wedding invitation. Registries should only be listed on your wedding website or bridal/wedding shower invitations.
