The average wedding takes 15 months to plan. However, the average honeymoon is only planned in 4 months. With all that goes into planning a wedding, not as much thought is put into planning a couple’s honeymoon. That’s why we’ve put together a few honeymoon planning tips to make your honeymoon a memorable experience.
1. Determine what type of honeymoon you both want.
There are many different types of honeymoons – active, relaxing, adventurous or one that includes everything. You and your fiancé need to determine what your expectations are for your honeymoon before you narrow down a location. If you fiancé wants a relaxing trip, but you are seeking sightseeing, both of those things can be accomplished with the right destination.
2. Alert accommodations that it’s your honeymoon.
Often times resorts, cruises and airlines will give you upgrades when possible for special occasions such as a honeymoon. Free upgrades aren’t offered to every honeymooning couple, but it’s worth a shot!
3. Talk about budget in advance.
Everyone wants to have a spectacular, one of a kind honeymoon. A honeymoon is a time in your life where you feel that you truly deserve to be pampered. But if you’ve already splurged on staying in a luxurious island resort, opting for a standard room versus a suite may be the way to go so you don’t break the bank. 4. Use your correct name.
This one is really for the girls. If you are taking your honeymoon soon after your wedding, then you won’t have had time to change your last name, if you are doing so, prior to traveling. 5. Determine when you’ll honeymoon.
More and more couples are deciding to delay their honeymoons. This could be to have a break after the wedding festivities before taking a big trip. Many couples delay their honeymoon for weather purposes, traveling to their chosen destination may not be ideal until a few weeks or months later. Whatever your decision may be, take timing into account. It may seem like a good idea now, but taking a 6:00am flight the morning after your wedding may not be as fun as you’d imagined when the time arrives.
