When selecting your wedding party, make sure you ask people that you want in your wedding, but that also want to be a part of your wedding in return. Being a bridesmaid or groomsmen comes with a lot of responsibilities. It’s a large time commitment, as well as a financial responsibility too. If someone isn’t 100% supportive or able to commit to being a member of your bridal party, it may cause problems during your engagement period or on your wedding day.

Make sure you set realistic expectations for your bridal party. Don’t expect them to come to vendor appointments, stuff wedding invitations or take part in every pre-wedding activity. If it’s important to you to have your bridal party help you during the wedding planning process or attend your pre-wedding events, talk that over with them in advance so everyone has clear expectations of their roles.

When narrowing down your bridal party choices, talk it over with your fiancé. You don’t have to have an even amount of bridesmaids or groomsmen, but having each other’s input is a must. Certain groups of people may make the most sense for your bridal party, such as only siblings, or just friends that you talk to or see on a regular basis. Mapping out a wish list of attendants before you start popping the question to bridal party members will make things easier in the long run.
